A Children's Book Author, a Camel, and a Falcon Walk into the Desert

It was January following the 2022 World Cup, and I was traveling to Dubai, UAE, and Qatar because I wanted to make a promotional video for my second children's book, which I had recently completed. I selected these countries because my book was set in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. I had visited Dubai once before, but this was my first time traveling to Qatar. I had a delightful time in Qatar and would love to return. My travel time in Doha was an evening and three days, but my flight left at 1 a.m. on my third full day, and I still had time to explore on my final day. I will answer frequently asked questions and list my itinerary.

Frequent questions and answers.

  • Did you feel safe as a solo traveler?

Absolutely!

  • Do female travelers need to wear an abaya or hijab?

No. As a tourist, you do not need to wear an abaya or hijab, but modest clothing is highly recommended. Respecting the culture and laws of the country where you are traveling will increase your safety, decrease harassment, and reduce unwanted glares and comments.

  • Are the Qataris friendly?

The Qataris were extremely hospitable and were eager to chat and welcome you to their country.

  • How is the transportation?

I was able to use my Uber Application while in Qatar. The only issue I experienced was that one of my drivers ended my ride early because he possibly had another fare. I had not yet reached my destination and had to seek assistance from a few nearby business owners. I did eventually reach Souq Waqif.

Doha Itinerary

  • My hotel- The W-Doha

This West Bay hotel was the perfect location for my first visit. This hotel has multiple restaurants and a cafe and even hosts a nightclub and lounge.

  • Desert Safari

The promotional video for my children's book was filmed in the desert, which means we combined a desert safari with my photo and video shoot. The filming was an all-day experience, but it was worth every moment. Before you adventure into the desert, there is an area where you can ride camels and take photos with falcons. This adventure is great for children and adults.

  • Souq Waqif

Exploring the winding pathways of Souq Waqif is a beautiful way to spend a Qatari evening. The souq offers spices, candies, dates, restaurants, gold, jewelry, and pets! No, you cannot purchase fur babies and transport them back to the States, but they are adorable.

  • The National Museum of Qatar

I always visit museums when I travel, and I must say that this is one of my favorite museums. I loved that it was interactive and contained Qatari history through the ages, giving a deep dive into the culture.

  • Doha Corniche

Whether you stroll this four-and-a-half-mile (seven kilometers) promenade by day or night, you will not regret your decision. It is the perfect way to admire the picturesque skyline of Doha and enjoy a delicious coffee.

What I Missed

  • Villaggio Mall, Museum of Islamic Art, and The Pearl Island

I hope you find the information I provided helpful for future trips to Qatar. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments. I wish you safe travels and happy reading.
