This summer is hot, and top tourist destinations need a break from the high volume of visitors. Are you looking for a location in Europe that is not overrun with tourists and spraying visitors with water guns but still has culture, history, unique attractions, breathtaking landscapes, and is budget-friendly? I have a few locations for you, but let's begin with Slovenia.
In March 2019, I had the wonderful experience of visiting Slovenia. I had three full days to get a quick overview of this Central European country, and I definitely have plans to return. This video is about Lake Bled, which has a magical and romantic feel.
I did not stay in Bled; I stayed in Koper on the Slovenian coast, about an hour and a half drive from Bled. Slovenia is easy to navigate, so you can stay in one location and take excursions daily. Since I visited in early spring, the weather was still a bit chilly, and on rainy days, it was cold. However, global weather is a guessing game, so Slovenia is no exception.
Lake Bled Island is the only island in Slovenia.
The traditional wooden boats that you see are known as pletnas.
Swimming is permitted in Lake Bled, but only in the designated areas.
We spent about two hours at the lake, and you should allow more time if you want to visit Bled Castle.
Bled Castle is open every day of the week.
