Let Me Give You a Hand in Uruguay!

Happy spring from your experienced travel advisor. Today, I want to take you on a quick field trip to Uruguay in South America. I have visited four countries in South America, and I believe Uruguay is one of the most underrated and overlooked. The beaches are beautiful, and the people are friendly. The drive from Montevideo to Punta del Este, "The Monaco of the South," is breathtaking and is only perfect with a relaxing artistic stop to explore Casa Pueblo. Casa Pueblo is the enthusiastically fanciful villa of Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró. The strikingly futuristic white house resides purposefully perched, contrasting the majestically blue Atlantic Ocean.

I also enjoyed the Museo del Carnaval in Montevideo, with its galleries exhibiting Candombe, Uruguayan Carnival, and Murga. Although I could not attend Carnival on this trip, my visit to the Carnival Museum was enough to tide me over until the next party.

As I say goodbye and enjoy your weekend, I must mention "The Hand," a sculpture created in 1982 by the Chilean artist Mario Irrazábal during the 1st International Meeting of Modern Sculpture in the Open Air in the City of Punta del Este. This is not only an excellent photo opportunity but also a reminder that even things meant to be temporary can sometimes withstand the tests of time!
